Nolli for iPhone and iPad brings one of the greatest maps of all time to your smartphone: the great plan of Rome by Giambattista Nolli, originally published in 1748. It is an app that provides a unique opportunity to explore the city and discover its hidden gems.

Using this app, you can navigate through present-day Rome using the eternal map, which surprisingly remains relevant for the historical center. You will be able to see more than others, thanks to the fine detail and clear handcrafted graphics of this masterpiece of mapping.

With Nolli, you can go in the right direction and uncover interesting things that might have otherwise gone unnoticed with a different map.

The app offers several features, including the ability to use the map in high resolution, even offline without an internet connection. You can browse freely or use the follow-me mode for a more guided experience. All points of interest from the two original indices are georeferenced and included in the app, totaling more than 1400 locations. Each location comes with corresponding data such as name, typological class, and Rione.

The search function allows you to find all features from the indices and all text labels on the plan, making it easy to locate specific places or landmarks. The app also faithfully reproduces the original labeling and structure of the directories found in Giambattista Nolli's work.

Furthermore, the app provides access to Nolli's original spelling of the indices, legend, and other signs in Italian at the bottom of the English version. This attention to detail ensures that users have an authentic experience.

In addition to these features, the map itself has been georeferenced and adapted for use on mobile devices. This allows for a fascinating comparison between modern-day Rome and Nolli's Rome from the mid-18th century.
